Joss Stone – The Paramount 5.29.24

Joss Stone and company began their Ellipsis tour at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on May 29, 2024. Warming up the crowd was none other than R&B/Funk Bassist/Vocalist Nik West, who put on a stellar performance and a great way to begin the evening!

I first heard of Joss Stone from the early beginning with her Soul Sessions CD which was quickly followed up with Mind, Body & Soul.  There was a certain sultriness paired with sincerity in the notes she sang.  Now, more than 20 years later, she still has it!

Commanding the stage wearing a pastel paisley print dress and matching nail polish, Ms Stone swayed up to the mic in her usual “bare-foot” approach before hypnotizing us with her opening song, “Star”

Accompanying her on-stage was her entourage consisting of 2 background singers, 2 horn players, keyboardist, Drummer, Bass and guitar players.  2 – 2 tiered risers split the stage providing a grand entrance for Ms Stone.

If I had one complaint, and unfortunately I do, it would be the Front of House mix.  Ive listened to Joss for more than 20 years and Im quite familiar with the prowess of her voice and have to say, the mix was EQ’d way too high!  And because of that, her vocals didnt seem “natural” or as warm as Im used to.  But I am happy to report, it wasnt her fault she sounded the way she did, as far as I could tell, she still has those vocals Ive come to respect and admire!

Here are a few highlights from her performance:
