I will never understand Long Island’s taste of music!! And I cant put my finger on any certain genre that would seem to be the most popular. Mudvayne brought their “Psychotherapy Sessions” to Northwell Health Theater at Jones Beach on Long Island and the crowd was dismal; almost to the point of embarrassing. For an amphitheater which holds approximately 15K, ticket sales were a barren, 1700! Luckily, that didnt stop all 5 acts from bringing their “A” game, something that Ive always wondered about bands that dont sell tickets. I was told that Mudvayne insisted they play at Jones Beach in spite of poor ticket sales. I’m quite certain had they played at a smaller venue like The Paramount, they would have easily sold out! But I was told they love that venue and insisted on playing there. The day started out with the Butcher Babies, a band that Ive never listened to, promptly at 5:30p and performed their full 30 minute set, followed by Nonpoint. Sadly, another band that Ive never listened to but quite enjoyed. It was now time to get slimed! GWAR was next and brought their full entourage of cretins! I knew it was going to be a mess so I had prepared to get “blood” and other bodily fluids sprayed into the crowd and possibly covered! Once their debris was finally cleaned up, Coal Chamber took the stage and commanded the crowd. The sun was finally setting from a 100+ degree day and we were treated by haze and theatrical lighting! The mosh pit was now in full force although the body surfers were mildly contained…for now.
It was now time for “Therapy” to officially begin!
I had heard that “angry” music makes people feel good. But I never really thought about it. But as I get nostalgic listening to my 70’s music playlist, I often get melancholy. It was when I felt that “angry” music playing through me as my viewfinder of my camera was fixed upon my eye, I suddenly realized how happy I felt! I was mildly “headbanging”, something that I never really done before and it made me feel good. My “Psychotherapy Session” was a success and I only look forward to getting more treatments in the future!
