The stage was set. A 1’ drum riser was set upstage center. On each side were a pair of 4’ x 2’ video monitors which would display video clips similar to what one may see at a Marilyn Manson show, complementing our aural transcendence! Sitting aside the video monitors were EVH – Heads and Cabs and a bass rig rounding out the collection of sound, all set in an arc.
Let the face-melting commence!
John 5, formally known as John Lowry, leads the new generation of guitarists that create instrumental music, usually peppered with a few audio clips, adding to the mood of the song. But what can really be said about John 5 that hasnt already been said? Anyone who knows who John 5 is, knows his stellar resume, from getting his major recognition replacing Zim Zum of Marilyn Manson before joining David Lee Roth, and ultimately replacing Mick Mars of Motley Crue.
John was joined on stage only by drummer Alejandro Mercado, whom many may know is the John 5 & The Creatures drummer. Yes, there was no bass player that joined them on stage! Any and all bass playing was actually done by John 5 himself who showcased his bass talents enhanced by a hand-drill; a popular gimmick as of late, but still very cool!
Here is a short gallery from John 5’s performance at The Gramercy Theatre in NYC. Special guests in attendance were none other than long time friend, Ace Frehley and Kerry King!
