Keb’ Mo’ – Rooftop @ Pier 17 S.E.R.P.E.N.T.

From Gospel to Blues, Calypso to Folk, Keb’ Mo’ has been giving us music for more than 50 years! He’s one of those artists that you can listen to all day, spinnin records, but will send shivers to your soul watching him perform live!

I had the privilege of meeting Mr Mo’ when the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel hosted a performance of his at The Bears Den.  And I can tell you, he is the salt of the earth! He is one of the most pleasant individuals Ive met; he’s quite humble and soft spoken.  After the show, as I walked him to the Green Room, we had arranged a small meet & greet for some VIP guests.  One of which was a young girl.  She had a small acoustic guitar with her in which she wanted to have signed.  He took the time to speak with her as he tuned the guitar and learned it was her birthday!  After he finished tuning the young lady’s guitar he sat there and played and sang Happy Birthday to her. You can imagine the adulation he felt by those of us standing around.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had alternate plans for us when he performed as part of Slash’s S.E.R.P.E.N.T tour at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in NYC.  Although Keb’ played an 8 song set, including “I Remember You”, “Am I Wrong” & a crowd favorite “Government Cheese”, I cant help wondering if he played an abbreviated set since Robert Randolph started a half hour late due to rain, as did ZZ Ward.

Here are a few highlights from Keb’ Mo’s performance:
