Greg Howe – The Suffolk Theater 8.9.24

I can only imagine how intimidating it may be when you reach a certain level of virtuosity and playing in front of a live audience.  Every eye is glaring at your fingers, watching as each digit dances on the fretboard or watching how you hold your guitar pick. Arms folded, head bobbing, foot tapping, thats what a guitar virtuoso audience looks like!  And we all had a good chuckle when Greg stepped up to the microphone and asked, “are there any musicians in the audience tonight?”

On drums, Marco Cirigliano joined forces with Mr Stu Hamm, a behemoth on bass whom I had the pleasure of seeing several times and eventually meeting him when he played with Alex Skolnick at the Iridium. The first time was with Joe Satriani at Sunrise Theater in Florida during Joes, “Flying In A Blue Dream” tour.  I was fortunate enough to get a pick, which I have to this day!  When speaking with Mr Hamm, he had told me that he could tell me which theater he played by naming the city or town. I had to laugh because Sunrise Theater is located in Sunrise, Florida!

I had mentioned it once before and Ill gladly mention it again; the worst thing about the 80’s was the music! But, the best thing about the 80’s, was also the music!  Once the country and American radio got invaded by Euro-pop, or as I called it, “Euro-trash”, I began listening to shredders! Atop that list were Yngwie Malmsteen, David T Chastain, Vinnie Moore, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Tony McAlpine and of course Greg Howe.  You can imagine how nostalgic we all felt when Greg opened his set with the first song from his first album, or cassette as the case may be!

Here are a few highlights from his performance at The Suffolk in Riverhead, NY on Long Island
