There are 3 women of blues guitar taking the stages by storm right now, Samantha Fish, Joanne Shaw Taylor and ANA Popovic; 4 if you include bassist, singer Danielle Nicole! All of which have their own unique sound, whether its their singing or style of playing. I had the pleasure of finally catching ANA perform to a sold out performance at the Boulton Center for the Arts in Bay Shore, NY on Long Island and I have to ask, “why did it take me so long to finally catch her in action”??
The night didnt exactly start out on a great foot, unfortunately the sax player and monitor sound guy had issues dialing in the level, creating the dreadful, annoying feedback! Once all was resolved, the remainder of the night went off without a hitch! And what a night it was!! ANA commanded the stage with blistering solos and sultry singing mixed with blues, funk and soul. She had those in attendance standing in appreciation, cheering in awe! And I asked myself again, “what took me so long to see her perform??”
Ms Popovic’s set list included a majority of songs off her latest release “Power” with a few choice selections peppered in to complete a more than 90 minute set. Here are a few choice pics from ANA’s performance.
