FREEBIRD – Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band 8.25.23

Well, it took me a couple of years, but I finally got to see FREEBIRD – The Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute band here on Long Island!  It seemed that previously something would always come up when they played at a venue near me.  Luckily the stars aligned and I was able to check them out at Eisenhower State Park in East Meadow.  And what a performance they put on!!

I had seen, several times, one of their guitarists play when Mike was part of Live After Death, an Iron Maiden Tribute band also here on the Island, so of course I knew he could play.  Teamed up with Ken Mades and Jim Maloney on guitar and bass respectively, along with Al Mazzone on vocals, Mike Gallino on drums and Jim Sotis on Keys, Mike Dwyer completes the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute line up.

It was hit after hit of all the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd tuneage that we all grew up with and love, finishing off the night with, of course, that one song we all wanted to hear; FREEBIRD!

I have to admit, I’m ashamed it took me so long to get off my ass to see these guys!  But Ill also say this, if you are a fan of Classic Lynyrd Skynryd, playing all the songs we grew up with, “Sweet Home Alabama”, “Simple Man”, “Call Me The Breeze”, “That Smell” and of course, “Freebird”, they are a great tribute band doing Skynyrd music justice!!!  I will definitely be seeing this band again!

Here are a few highlights from their performance!

  1. Well said. I saw these guys earlier this year for the first time and have since seen them maybe 5-6 times. They are very talented and they get the place shaking’. You need to see brothers and friends as well. They are a very good Marshall Tucker band.
