There’s a reason Don Felder was invited to join The Eagles in the 1970s — Eagles soar higher than the rest. On a warm autumn evening in Patchogue, New York, Don Felder proved he still has the ability to soar with the very best of them.
Performing before an intimate crowd at the Patchogue Theatre, which holds approximately 1,100 fans, Felder received a reception that felt more fitting for a sold-out arena several times its size. From the opening notes of “Already Gone,” the audience was fully engaged, welcoming the legendary guitarist with thunderous applause and unwavering enthusiasm.
The momentum continued with crowd favorites including “One of These Nights” and a spirited rendition of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Pride and Joy,” further demonstrating Felder’s versatility and enduring stage presence. Throughout the evening, he effortlessly delivered hit after hit while recreating many of his iconic guitar solos with remarkable precision and energy.
Between songs, Felder offered stories and reflections from his storied career, adding a personal touch to the performance. One particularly heartfelt moment came when he dedicated “Tequila Sunrise” to his longtime friend and fellow Eagle, the late Glenn Frey, drawing an emotional response from the audience.
The evening also showcased the talents of Felder’s outstanding band. During “Seven Bridges Road,” bandmates Bruce Atkinson on bass, David Myhre on guitar, Stevie Distanislao on drums, and Timothy Drury on keyboards joined together in rich harmonies that beautifully captured the spirit of the Eagles’ classic sound. Another standout moment came during “Those Shoes,” featuring David Myhre skillfully assisting with the song’s signature talk box effect.
As expected, the night culminated with Felder bringing out his iconic white Gibson SG double-neck guitar for the unmistakable opening of “Hotel California.” Instantly, the crowd rose to its feet with hands raised high, whistles echoing throughout the theater, and thunderous applause filling the room. It was a fitting finale to an unforgettable evening and a powerful reminder that Don Felder continues to soar as both a guitarist and performer.
